In 1984, Mike and Jodie Timkey rolled the dice. Borrowing money from his parents, Mike opened Barnyard Ski Rental -- a rental business servicing the uptick in clientele coming to visit a surging ski town called Ellicottville. The Timkeys harnessed the small business spirit and built it from the ground up. When a fire burned the place to the ground in 1984 -- just months after opening, they persevered. Unwilling to quit on the dream, Mike (who cut his teeth in carpentry) called on the help of friends to build it back up. In 1991, when snowboarding was in its infancy, the Timkeys jumped on it. Two kids came along, the industry exploded in popularity, and The Boardroom transformed itself into one of the premier snowboard shops on the east coast.
We've been through a lot these past 38 years. Good winters, bad winters, revolutionary snowboard technology, awesome employees, relationships with customers. But a few things have remained constant: an unrelenting passion for what we do and who we are. We're in the business of selling fun, and that's something we never take for granted. When we tell people what we do for a living, they almost do a double take. You sell what now? Snowboards? It's a unique way to make a living, and while there are some lows, the majority are highs.
It cannot be stressed enough how much we love coming to the store every day. It's a cliche, but when you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. That's the beauty of it -- our passion is infectious, our love of winter contagious. The lifeblood of our business revolves around you going to the resort and not being able to wipe the smile off of your face. At its purest form, snowboarding is about having fun. It's about time with the family, friends or that random guy you just met on the chairlift and coming together for the love of standing sideways. This is our mission statement. This is our reason.

And above all else, we offer the experience - the smell of the wax, the high fives, the beagles sitting in your lap, Highwaymen Pandora on the speakers - that comes with buying a snowboard or anything else you might need.
